Most recently, she spent nearly eight years as an Assistant United States Attorney and Civil Immigration Coordinator for the Western District of Texas, one of the largest and busiest federal districts in the country. In that role, she represented the United States in complex immigration litigation across all seven divisions of the district: habeas corpus petitions, mandamus actions, APA delay and denied-benefits claims, naturalization and denaturalization cases, FOIA disputes, and immigration-related tort claims.
Before joining the Department of Justice, Lacy spent six years as a DHS Assistant Chief Counsel, litigating removal cases before the San Antonio Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals. She also trained federal law enforcement agents as a legal instructor at the DHS ICE Academy. Lacy began her career working directly under nationally recognized immigration authority Ira Kurzban, where she also helped edit multiple editions of Kurzban’s Immigration Law Sourcebook.
As she left federal service, opposing counsel called her “a model government attorney who truly practiced to administer justice fairly.” In this workshop, she’s teaching you that insider judgment.
Lacy is admitted to The Florida Bar, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
This workshop is designed exactly for attorneys in your position: those with limited or no federal court experience, including attorneys considering affirmative federal litigation for the first time. You’ll leave with a practical framework you can apply the same week.
Not at all. Attorneys may register because they suspect a current client’s case qualifies and want to know for sure. You’ll leave with a case-evaluation framework you can run against any pending matter - this one or the next one.
Live attendance is strongly encouraged. The workshop is built as one continuous arc. To get full value, plan to attend all sessions live. If something comes up, the sessions will be recorded and the replay will be available on your student dashboard
This workshop is not accredited for CLE but you may be able to self-petition for CLE credit with your state Bar Association. We are happy to assist with your self-petition.
