Case & Brief Review

A Judge Reads It Before The Court Does

A former immigration judge reviews your evidence, or your written argument, before the court does, and shows you exactly how to make it stronger.

You file with confidence. And you know what to look for on the next case, and on the one after that.

What You Cannot See From Where You Are Sitting

Most attorneys who send us a file are not careless. They are new to this part of the practice, or they are buried, and nobody has ever shown them what the court is actually weighing.

You do not know what has to be proven to win the relief you are asking for.

You do not know what evidence the court needs to see, or where the next piece would come from.

You are carrying four hundred other cases, and this is the part there is never time to learn.

You are finding your case law on Google, because nobody told you where else to look.

It comes down to the same three things every time. You do not know what to do next, where to find the information, or how a judge thinks when they read what you filed.

Two Reviews. Which One Do You Need?

One looks at your evidence. One looks at your argument. They overlap, and most attorneys need one of them more than the other.

A brief review takes your evidence into account, and an evidence review will tell you what an argument still needs. If you are not sure which one you want, say so in the form and we will work it out on the call.

What A Review Actually Catches

One Sworn Statement. Five Things That Should Be Filed With It.

A witness swears that a family member was with them the night they were attacked. That is in the statement, and the statement is in the file. Nothing else is.

There is no lack of care here. There is a lack of knowing what the next rational step is to go and corroborate the story.

The same goes for country conditions. There are reports available through international bodies, the U.S. State Department and the United Nations that most attorneys filing their first few cases do not know to look for.

Have Us Read Your File

No sworn statement from the family member who was there

No police report, if the police were called

No hospital records, if they were treated

No photographs of the injuries

No local press coverage, if the press came out

Four Reasons Attorneys Send Us A File

You Are New To Removal Defense

You do not yet know what the process expects, what evidence is needed, or to what standard the documents have to be formatted. Nobody is born knowing it and nobody taught you.

Key Outcome: you file to the standard, not to a guess.

You Are Carrying Four Hundred Other Cases

You are not short of ability. You are short of hours, and the presentation of your case is a crucial part of the practice that there has never been time to sit down and learn properly.

Key Outcome: someone else does the reading you cannot get to.

You Trained Outside The United States

Your legal reasoning is sound. It is structured the way you were taught to structure it, which is not the way a U.S. immigration judge reads an argument, so the point you are making does not always arrive.

Key Outcome: the argument reads the way the bench reads.

You Want It To Carry Over To The Next Case

This is not just a review of one file. What you learn about what the judge is looking for in this type of case is what the judge is looking for in every one of them. It is replicable, and it is yours to keep.

Key Outcome: one review, and you know what to look for next time.

For Firms

This Is Not Overhead. It Is Training.

A firm that sends us a file gets a former immigration judge reading it. That is an extra set of hands on your hardest cases without adding an employee, and the attorney who worked the file learns what the bench was weighing.

Every review prepares them for the next file. It becomes knowledge, and knowledge is replicable. The quality of what your firm files afterwards goes up, and it stays up.

Judge-Level Review On Demand

Send a file when a case warrants it. No retainer, no commitment to a volume you may not have.

Without Adding Staff

The expertise of a former judge and a former government attorney, on the cases where it matters, without a salary attached to it.

Every Review Doubles As Training

The filings that follow are better, because the attorney who worked this one now knows what was being looked for.

If the decision is not yours to make, say so when you enquire. We are happy to talk to whoever signs off on training at your firm and explain what this is and what it is worth.

Talk To Us About Your Firm

How It Works

You know what it will cost and roughly how long it will take before you commit to anything.

Tell us about the matter

Which review you want, the type of case and the relief sought, the court, your filing or hearing deadline, and roughly how big the file is.

A call to scope it

We agree your goals, your deadline, and the kind of feedback that will actually help. We also check that none of our judges has a conflict in your matter.

Your reviewer and your estimate

We match the matter to the faculty member whose experience fits it. They tell us how many hours it will take, and we tell you, before you commit to anything.

A deposit, and a private folder

Half up front reserves your reviewer's time. We open a private folder only you and your reviewer can reach, and you send the file, anonymised if you prefer.

Your review, in writing

Your reviewer's recommendations come back to you in writing. One to three weeks, depending on the volume of evidence or the size of the file, which we agree up front.

Questions We Get Asked

This is too expensive.

It is an investment and we will not pretend otherwise. What you are buying is not a review of one file. The recommendations carry over into every case you take after this one, because what the judge is looking for in this type of case is what the judge is looking for in all of them. You will have the estimated hours before you commit, so you can plan for it. We do not discount this, because it is real work by people who used to decide these cases.

My firm will never pay for this.

Then let us talk to whoever decides. We are happy to speak to your firm manager directly, because firms can treat this as training rather than as overhead. A review is an extra set of expert hands on a hard case without the cost of another employee, and the attorney who worked the file comes out knowing something they did not know before. That is the version of the argument that tends to land.

I am swamped. Can you just write it for me?

No. We review, we do not draft. You are counsel of record, and when you stand up the judge needs you to know the argument and to own it. A brief somebody else wrote is one you cannot defend when you are questioned on it. What we will do is tell you how to make the argument you wrote considerably stronger.

How long does a review take?

Between one and three weeks, and which end of that depends on the volume of the evidence or the size of the file. A full case file for a complex merits hearing is not a two-day job. We tell you the window before you commit, not after, so you can decide against your own deadline.

My deadline is next week. Can you still do it?

Ask anyway, and ask quickly. We will check with our faculty straight away, and if someone has the time they will take it on immediately. If nobody can meet your deadline we will say so rather than take the work and let you down, and we will offer to put you in touch with a colleague we trust instead.

How do you keep my client's information safe?

We open a private folder for your matter with a private link, and only the people holding that link can reach it. Your reviewer and you. Nothing is sent around by email and nothing sits anywhere else.

Can I send the file anonymised?

Yes, and plenty of attorneys do. Take the identifying details out and send it to us that way. We will work from what is there and fill in the blanks with you where the gap matters to the review.

Who actually reads my file?

One of our faculty, all of whom are former immigration judges. We take the matter to the faculty and it goes to the person whose experience fits your case and who has the time to do it properly. You will know who it is, and what they estimate, before you commit.

If I hire you, will I win?

We cannot promise an outcome and we will not. What we can do is show you where your evidence is thin, where your argument is soft and where the government will go after it, while you still have time to do something about all three. You file in better shape than you would have. That is the honest claim and it is the only one we make.

The Court Only Reads It Once

A judge can read it first.

Tell us which review you want, what the case is and when your deadline falls. We will come back to you with who would read it, roughly how long it will take and what it will cost, before you commit to anything. If you are a firm, say so in the last question and we will talk about that instead.
